well at the petsmart where I live, they have adoptions on saturday morning and afternoons. They let you play with all the cute dogs, even if you dont want to adopt. They acually encourage it because the dogs need attention

None of those pet stores care if you don’t buy anything. Pet Land is good, but please don’t ever buy a pet from there. They get their animals from breeders.

My friends and I were at Petsmart and played with the kittens in the adoption center. My friend told the woman she was thinking of adopting one, which was sort of true.

well i’m sure you can, but they will always be offering to adopt a pet.. if you don’t want to, just turn them down and say that you’re just looking around

Well if you tell the staff that you’re thinking of adopting a kitten of some other animal they’ll probably let you take it out of it’s cage. Then you simply say, ‘I’m sorry. We don’t think we’ll adopt one today’ and there you go.

I’m not sure what state your in, but here in Michigan that is allowed. I go into my local Petco and they let me play with the small fuzzy critters and the reptiles if I ask them. The only thing they don’t allow is for the adoption cats to be taken out, because that portion of the store is run by an outside organization.
However, Petsmart is a little more picky. The old un-remodeled stores will let you take out their kittens to be played with, but they don’t allow you to handle their reptiles.
I suggest also going to a local humane society or pet rescue facility.
Hope this helps

You should go in there with the false intention of buying or adopting. It doesn’t hurt anyone to tell a little white lie of this kind. we used to do it all the time. the staff and owners never seemed to mind , in fact I think it encouraged some “shy” buyers to be more aggressive towards their purchase. The employees like handling the animals too so you’re actually doing them a favor. And it’s a lot of fun for young kids.

I believe you are looking for a petting zoo, not a pet store.

I work for Petsmart and we do not allow handling unless you have the intention to buy. It stresses the animal, and wastes the associates time.

It really depends on the pet store. Most of the pet stores I have been in(except for the ones that know me well), do not allow handling of the animals(even if you’re buying them.) The reasons being,
1- it stresses the animals unnecessarily
2- If you get bitten they don’t want to be sued for medical expenses(especially if you are a minor)
3- What if you drop the animal and lose it?
4- It takes up the time of the employees, in most stores they have to wait and watch you.

I have gotten pets at Petsmart and Petco and neither would even let me hold the animals I was going to purchase(they only allowed me to touch them). Of all the stores I’ve been in, only one allows me to touch the animals, and mostly that is b/c I go there a lot and know the owners b/c of that.

There is not harm in asking if you can play with the animals, but don’t be surprised if they tell you no. Make sure you have alternative plans for your date.

If you want to really make a difference in a pet’s life while fulfilling your desire to play with animals – volunteer at an animal control shelter or humane society. Those animals have less chance of being adopted and spend most of their lives scared, alone and in cages. They’d definitely welcome a loving hand.
